Notes: Recently, the Eurasian otter was spotted in the Kashmir Valley after nearly 30 years. Eurasian otter is also called European otter, common otter, and Old-World otter. It is a semi-aquatic carnivorous mammal native to Eurasia. It has a wide distribution across the Middle-East, Europe, Northern Africa, Eastern Russia, China, and other parts of Asia. In India, it is found in northern, northeastern, and southern regions. In Kashmir, it is locally known as Vuder and was once common in water bodies.

Notes: Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes sudden, involuntary movements or vocal sounds called tics. It usually starts between the ages of 2 and 15, with the average age of onset around six. It affects around 0.3% to 1% of the global population, as highlighted in recent reports. The condition is more common in boys than in girls. Tics can be mild or severe and may include blinking, jerking, or making sounds. In severe cases, it can impact speech, daily activities, and overall quality of life.

Notes: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently released the 2025 Review of the State of World Marine Fishery Resources. The report highlights that deep-sea species are hard to manage due to their slow growth, late maturity, long lifespans, low natural death rates, and rare spawning. Only 29% of deep-sea fish stocks are being fished sustainably, making them highly vulnerable. It raises concern over overfishing and Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. Globally, 64.5% of all fishery stocks are within sustainable levels, but 35.5% are overfished.

Notes: Recently, several people lost their lives due to drowning in the Banas River in Tonk district of Rajasthan. The Banas River is located in the northwestern Indian state of Rajasthan. It originates near Kumbhalgarh in the Aravalli hills and flows northeastward. The river finally merges with the Chambal River just north of Sheopur.
