Answer. First, Bruno ate poison (barium carbonate) meant for rats. He became seriously ill—vomiting, breathing heavily, and unable to stand—but was saved by a vet's timely injection. Second, he drank a gallon of old engine oil but, surprisingly, suffered no ill effects at all.

2. Was Bruno a loving and playful pet? Why, then, did he have to be sent away?

Answer. Yes, Bruno was extremely loving and playful, forming a deep bond with the family, especially the author's wife. He had to be sent away because he outgrew the house, becoming too big and strong for a home environment, which raised concerns for everyone's safety.

3. How was the problem of what to do with Bruno finally solved?
